Nepal is a birthplace of Buddha and Buddhism. Nepal has a significant Buddhist influence and beautiful monasteries all over show the popularity of Buddhism in Nepal. Cultural heritage like Swoyamdhu, Bouddha are the jewelries of Nepal. Volunteers interested to work in a Buddhist monastery mostly teach English education to monks and immerse in Buddhist culture. Besides teaching, interns can conduct their research programs and get indulged in the day-to-day monastery rituals.
Qualifications: Though no teaching experience or skill is needed, volunteers joining the Buddhist monk teaching in Nepal should have good English, both written and verbal. Volunteers are expected to be enthusiastic, flexible and patient. Volunteers with an interest in Buddism and in the lifestyle of Buddhist monks/nuns will enjoy this program.
Neydo Tashi Choling Monastery
The NEYDO monastery for the preservation of the NEYDO tradition was built with the help funds from the followers of the NEYDO tradition, which is a union of Mahamundra and great perfection. Courses on Tibetan poetry and composition, Buddhist philosophy, and ethics at the monastery are available. Within a year of its opening, good accomplishment in terms of monastic education and training that are crucial for the preservation of the NEYDO tradition has been achieved. The monastery is located in Pharping, 45 minutes drive from Kathmandu and has its own guest house for interns to stay. Three meals a day are provided with minimum charge.
